Sliced into bars, rolled in sugar, then seared in a skillet until the edges are lacy and crisp, this cake pairs beautifully with a spoonful of tart or sour cream sweetened with homemade milk jam.

You’ll get better results if you opt for smaller amounts of aged, flavorsome varieties rather than larger quantities of the milder-tasting cheeses. Caveaged gruyère, Greek barrel-aged feta and extra mature cheddar will bring bags of flavor to your baking.

This is a basic recipe for homemade yogurt using commercial full fat milk. The yogurt is delicious as is, but can be made into the thick yogurt in a couple of hours in the comfort of your home. You don’t have to visit your supermarket in case it runs out.
Try thick Greek yogurt with:
thyme honey (with or without chopped walnuts)
pomegranate seeds, the yogurt can be eaten as is, with some honey or any other syrup, with fresh fruits, make desserts, marinate meat, accompanying pasta and pilaf dishes or it can be used in so many other ways.

You can make the most of even the smallest pieces of leftover meat on your holiday turkey. I simmer the bones to get the rich flavor, then easily remove any meat that remains. I add rice, vegetables and cream soup for a hearty soup that’s tasty and economical.

This cheese spread has a fabulous tangy flavour, thanks to a small amount of dijon mustard and beer. The recipe calls for an ale, and I think you could really use just about anything so long as it’s not a light beer; I used one of my new favourites – Blue Moon. I processed this pretty well in the food processor, but you could easily choose to pulse it for a chunkier consistency if you would prefer.

This is my mom’s recipe and method of making tom yum goong and it is the best! It is simple and fast to make. This is definitely a recipe that you can only balance by taste — tom yum goong should never be bland, but hot and sour.

There’s satay, and then there’s Thai chicken satay! If you’ve never had the real stuff, then you’ll fall in love with the succulent taste of this satay recipe, which has been passed down through my husband’s family (from Thailand) for many generations. Strips of chicken (or beef) are marinated in a special Thai paste, then skewered and grilled on the BBQ or broiled in the oven. It is then served with homemade peanut sauce for the ultimate taste sensation. Even your kids will love it. Chicken Satay also makes a great party food!

This is a coconut-based curry soup. The main ingredients for most versions of curry laksa include tofu puffs, fish sticks, shrimp and cockles. Some vendors may sell chicken laksa which uses chicken instead of shrimp. Cockles are usually very commonly used in laksa and most vendors would add them into laksa unless customers request not to have cockles for hygiene reasons. Laksa is commonly served with a spoonful of sambal chilli paste and is traditionally garnished with Vietnamese coriander, or laksa leaf, which is known in Malay as daunkesum.
